All the tuners are there and look ok(except for 1 tuning peg washer is missing) The tone& volume controls, wiring and pickups look pretty corroded and toasty as well as the input jack.

The headstock has a small chip at the tip with the wood still there. May have a couple cracks but seems solid enough to strip and redo. The body paint is cracked and splintering.

The neck looks the best, then headstock and tuners. Two single coil pickups(1 still covered with white plastic) A Fender style headstock, 3 way switch, a black pickguard, volume and tone Univox gold knobs and a tremolo/bridge assembly but is missing the bar. It has the plastic Univox logo common during that time. more Fortuneately I found it and rescued it so someone can breath some life back into this rare guitar! This is a solid body electric that appears to be modeled after a Fender Mustang/Jaguar/Telecaster. I'm thinking along the lines of a black anodized guard with lipsticks or even Jag-style pickups (I don't want to route.) I think it will still need a refret to get it up to grade, but that's probably last on the list.UNIVOX ELECTRIC GUITAR PROJECT 1966 Univox UC-2 Matsumoku Unfortuneately it was not stored properly for many years. Player revival route: Less daunting, but also maybe less rewarding. d) switch tip is missing, as is the trem cover. c) frets are worn and even damaged in a few spots- a refret is almost certainly needed. a) One of the pickups isn't working and a look at the wiring seems to show everything intact. I'm trying to decide if I should restore it as much as possible to Vintage spec, or if I'd rather refurbish it and rock it as a player. "Steel Reinforced Neck" on the neckplate is about the most informative text found anywhere besides the logo, which puts it from the Matsumoko family of Japanese-made guitars. Took the neck off (and the 4 strings that came with it) and opened up the guts- there are NO identifying marks or serial numbers to help with the date or model- even the pots have no date code. Most sources (similar listings on eBay/Reverb, a few cryptic references on some Univox fan pages, and a couple of YouTube video demos) that I've found say that it is from the '60s, but I haven't seen anything that points to a model name or firm date.Īnyone have any insight/experience/opinions on these? One of them is a true Vintage Guitar as defined by the forum rules- although I can't find much info about it anywhere. So, as part of a recent windfall, I blew a bunch of money on several guitars.
